Mild and Moderate Orthopedic Program
DEPARTMENT SERVICES:
 | The Mild and Moderate Orthopedic Program provides the training and support necessary to allow students with orthopedic or sensory-motor impairments to benefit from their educational environment and become as independent as possible in their school, home and community settings. This program is responsible for the following services: | | - The assessment of all children, birth through graduation from high school, who are suspected of having an orthopedic or sensory-motor impairment.
| | | - Direct therapy, consultation regarding program development, indirect service and technical assistance for students, birth through high school, with a mild to moderate orthopedic impairment or a moderate to severe sensory-motor impairment that interferes with the student's ability to access his or her education.
| | | - Materials and equipment are available for short term loan. These items are meant to be used on a trial basis as part of the evaluation process prior to the district or parents purchasing needed items for a long-term basis.
| | | - Assistance with wheelchair fittings and clinics and with accessing and using assistive technology.
| | | - Updated and technical information provided through consultation, inservices and/or workshops.
| | | - Development of feeding and swallowing protocols and staff inservice, in collaboration with ESD's Oral Motor Team.
| | | - Development of lifting protocols and staff inservice regarding lifting.
| | | - Transition services, and consultation to staff regarding transition services, for those students ages 14 and older.
| | | - Extended School Year services to Regional, as well as Mild-Moderate, students who qualify.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Orthopedic Staff consists of four physical therapists and six occupational therapists who are assigned geographically and who split their time between Regional, EI/ECSE and Mild-Moderate services.
